10 Coldplay Songs to Celebrate Life

A compilation to brighten your day.

10 COLDPLAY SONGS TO CELEBRATE LIFE

For years, since the 2000s, people often mistakenly associated Coldplay with being a "melancholic" and "depressive" band, not recognizing that something extra that only fans understood (like the message of overcoming or the light at the end of the tunnel, for instance). Over time and with new music styles emerging, this notion has gradually been abandoned by critics, giving way to a new concept: a band that has progressed and matured to the point of celebrating life with their songs. With this in mind, I prepared a list with 10 Coldplay songs that define this moment, celebrating life. Check it out:

10. Yellow

Album: Parachutes (2000)
Commentary: Since the release of their first album, the band already showcased their brilliance, and "Yellow" is proof of that: “Look at the stars… see how they shine for you…”

9. Lovers in Japan

Album: Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008)
Commentary: This song was a hit during the Viva la Vida tour, especially in Japan due to its connection with the song's story. Its performance was always accompanied by lots of confetti and a festive audience.

8. Up&Up

Album: A Head Full of Dreams (2015)
Commentary: This song was described by Chris Martin himself as “the song we always dreamed of making.” A clear depiction of the band's new spirit.

7. Paradise

Album: Mylo Xyloto (2011)
Commentary: A song that won over the public with the way its story was told in the music video and with its catchy chorus: “Para-Para-Paradise…”

6. Viva la Vida

Album: Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008)
Commentary: Its lyrics are not synonymous with “celebration,” but it is the band's most successful song and the highlight of their shows, being the most memorable and anticipated moment in their performances since 2008, especially at the peak of the chorus: “Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh…”

5. Every Teardrop is a Waterfall

Album: Mylo Xyloto (2011)
Commentary: A song that epitomizes the band’s “more colorful” phase after the Viva la Vida era, often used to close their shows around the world (with a bang).

4. Adventure of a Lifetime

Album: A Head Full of Dreams (2015)
Commentary: A song that innovated with its music video like “Paradise” but brought a more tranquil and festive vibe: "Everything you want is a dream away…”

3. Amazing Day

Album: A Head Full of Dreams (2015)
Commentary: Probably the most beautiful song from the band's latest album, carrying a pure and profound meaning for the listener.

2. A Sky Full of Stars

Album: Ghost Stories (2014)
Commentary: A song that stood out within an intimate album (“Ghost Stories”) with its excitement and vibrant rhythm, a product of Coldplay’s collaboration with Avicii.

1. Hymn for the Weekend

Album: A Head Full of Dreams (2015)
Commentary: A song featuring Beyoncé that celebrates life like never before: "Oh, angel sent from up above…” representing Coldplay’s new horizon.

And for you, reader, which song best exemplifies this celebratory phase of Coldplay?
